WHY THE NAME PIXIDIS?
You may wonder, if you are on this site looking for perfume content:
“what does Pixidis mean and how could it possibly relate to the fragrance world”? Short answer: it doesn’t, strictly speaking.
Pixidis, originally Pixidis Nautica, was an instrument used by sailors in Ancient times to navigate on open seas during a storm. A compass of sorts that was presented in a glass box. The word itself derives from the Greek word pyxis, a vessel, usually a cylindrical box with a separate lid, mostly used by women to hold cosmetics, perfumes or jewellery.
This dual meaning as both as an instrument of navigation and a precious object related to world of beauty/scent seemed like a fitting image for a blog focused all things perfume-related and present perfume as a way to “navigate life”.
WHAT'S THE BLOG OBJECTIVE?
Instead of another platform offering perfume reviews, this blog will focus more on the creative process behind scent composition and the challenges artisanal perfumers such as myself face. In an overcrowded market, I want to go back to basics: perfumes telling a story.
The story of what inspired their creation, the story behind the artists that composed them and the story of the raw materials they contain.
I believe perfumes are “olfactive novels” that will resonate with each of us differently.
LET PIXIDIS TAKE YOU ON THIS JOURNEY!
